The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
